Understanding creates appreciation.
Appreciation builds perspective.

Understanding

A new relationship with art can be mysterious, confusing, and lackluster. We quickly question what makes a painting special. When we don’t understand, the thought plagues us.

To find an answer, we need to understand its artist, influences, and more. But once we do, it becomes clear.

Appreciation

Appreciation comes from understanding. We can finally see the genius, boldness, and beauty in the art.  Art has influenced the world more than we know. This takes our new appreciation beyond the galleries and onto the world around us. We soon find appreciating art makes the world more beautiful.

Perspective

After developing an appreciation, we gradually become freethinkers – with our own perspective and feelings towards the art we experience.

Ultimately, this turns the experience introspective. We love art and it loves us back. Not only do we have an appreciation for it but a personal relationship with it – one that can’t be expressed with words.

From Me to You

White Wall Theory is about our individual journeys to forming perspectives and connections with art. From that frame of reference, there are no right answers. All of our connections are unique. And we are all on the journey together. Therefore, I hope you do not look to White Wall Theory as the final say of what is right or wrong and good or bad.

These writings are merely to help you along your journey like others help me. Not by stipulating what pieces are great but exposing you to the views of others. Not by asking you to accept a perspective but giving you the building blocks to form your own.

As I can,
